These Foolish Things – Japanese version and Chinese version

These Foolish Things

“These Foolish Things” is a standard Jazz number. There are many versions. The image on the left show a Japanese interpretation, which is very good.

This one is another Japanese version, which is actually in Japanese. (But it is not as good as the first Japanese lady’s version).

I therefore translated it into Chinese:

So, why it needs to be translated into Chinese then? You may not know that the original English lyrics was written by Anna May Wong’s lover, and dedicated to

Anna May Wong. The song writer found the lyrics, got inspired and added in the music part. Continue reading

Since I have already sold my previous SONY Camcorder in second hand moving sale. I recently bought a new Camcorder – DVH-596 1080p. This is a no brand Camcorder made in China. It has been branded into several Australian dealers, like this one: Audiosonic is a brand of Kmart, Australia ( also there is Kogan, etc.) But other brands are selling several hundred than the price I got it from a prompting sale in Kmart. It is only $199. I went to my nearest Kmart the early morning the prompt sale began, the staff there told me they are already sold out, there is only 2 left, 1 is a display model, the other unopened one is this one I got, and there is no plan heard for re-stocking. How come it is out of stock the morning of day one, go figure. This is even cheaper than the cheapest online price from the direct Chinese online dealer Chinavasion: $224

Please note, the color of the Cam is not black, it is steel silver dark grey with a tiny blue tint. This finishing is almost identical to my Previous SONY camcorder, so you can go to that link and have a better look of the color. It is actually very beautiful color under the sun IMHO. Images above except the first two were taken took using this Camcorder in photo mode. Well, the photos aren’t that great. Here is a youtube video test clip I took:

[youtube:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmx2PanVECE 260 200]

As you can see, video is so so too (to not bad). Yet, to say the least, as a 1080p and HD cam, it is much much better than the SONY cam I just sold. Well, the major reason I bought this camcorder is that I seldom take video, and if I do, they are for youtube or view in my Mac. I never take any video for TV display.

Youtube Jazz Piano mega star 7notemode replied all my comments on him. He seldom seldom replies his comments, which is humongous in quantity. Am I just very so lucky? Well, all my comments were just two comments in total though. 😉 There is a week or so time difference of the two comments though.

7notemode’s Youtube channel is here

If you don’t know who is 7notemode in Youtube. Listen to his interpretation of ‘My one and only love‘. Or ‘A house is not a home’ in my previous post.

Here is a piece in which Carmen Miranda was without her Banana Hat. You should see the faces of the other stars in the movie. Cannot blame them. Carmen was the highest-paid entertainer for several years in the 1940s, and in 1945, was the highest-paid woman, earning more than $200,000, according to IRS records.

A Star is Born

Judy Garland A-Star-is-Born

Barbra Streisand A Star is Born

A Star is Born is a movie that has been made 3 times. The two versions normally known are 1954 – Judy Garland; and 1976 – Barbra Streisand. I remember I watch both in China National Library in Beijing when I was a Uni Student in Beijing dated around 1995.

Video 1 showing Judy Garland singing ‘The man that got away’; Video 2 showing Barbra Streisand singing ‘Evergreen’ (starting from 0:53); Video 3 showing Judy Davis played Judy Garland in movie made for TV – ‘Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows’. She sang ‘The man that got away’ (starting from 8:18). Ms Davis’s Emmy (2001) and Gold Globe (2002) winning performance of July Garland got so scary sometimes that you might think Judy Garland came back to life and seized Judy Davis’s body…

Ma Yanhong

Ma Yanhong

Ma YanhongMa Yanhong, China’s first Gold medalist on Olympic Gymnastics (1984). Known for her original UB stunt of “hecht back salto with full turn to dismount”.

High performances:
1978 Asian Games – 1st uneven bars
1979 World Championships – 1st uneven bars (China’s first world title in gymnastics)
1981 World Championships – 2nd uneven bars, 4th all-around, 5th floor exercise
1984 Los Angels Olympic Games – 1st uneven bars, 3rd women’s team, 5th balance beam

Notice that scary 1/35 (body hitting the lower bar) ? This is discarded by modern day gymnastics due to the increased distance between the two bars. And also that dazzling finish. I don’t believe modern gymnasts are able (or permitted) to do that.

Mama Rose

Bette Midler

Bette Midler is one of my favorite actress. I like her movie ‘Isn’t She Great‘. It’s however a low rated movie portraying Jacqueline Susann – best seller novelist’s life. Yet, her most intense performance is in a TV movie (movie made only for TV, not for cinema) – ‘Gypsy‘; a movie on Gypsy Rose Lee‘s life. Bette played Gypsy’s mother. – Mama Rose. Image on the left showing Bette Midler with her daughter. Video clips: ‘Some people’, and ‘Rose’s Turn’. Better Midler at her best:
