These Foolish Things – Japanese version and Chinese version

These Foolish Things

“These Foolish Things” is a standard Jazz number. There are many versions. The image on the left show a Japanese interpretation, which is very good.

This one is another Japanese version, which is actually in Japanese. (But it is not as good as the first Japanese lady’s version).

I therefore translated it into Chinese:

So, why it needs to be translated into Chinese then? You may not know that the original English lyrics was written by Anna May Wong’s lover, and dedicated to

Anna May Wong. The song writer found the lyrics, got inspired and added in the music part. Continue reading

2007-07-06 超級星光大道 潘裕文–鳳凰花開的路口

This is a Taiwanese TV singing contest show more than a year ago. But this song never left my heart ever since.

This singer’s skill and singing wasn’t perfect. But his emotion was so profound, deep and real…

Doris Day singing ‘I may be wrong but I think you’re wonderful’ in 1950 black and white movie – ‘Young Man with a Horn’. The movie rendition of this song is the best redition. For lyric, see the 1st lyric image, then continue to the last paragraph of the 2nd lyric image… 😉

Danny Boy and “China Children Chorus”

This is a “Danny Boy” version by “Children and Young Women’s Chorus of the China National Symphony Orchestra” (Sometimes called Children’s Chorus of China) 中国交响乐团附属少年及女子合唱团

(Update: 17 Mar 2010, a reader is asking the Chinese lyrics of this song today, here it is:

This chorus is known to be in the top 5 chorus in the world; actually No.1 from 1995~1996 when I was a fan in Beijing back then. Its director and producer is Dr. Yang HongNian. Before I went abroad in 1997, I went to his home. He gave me a non-commercial recording with his signature. Among the list is this Chinese version of Danny Boy. In my impression this is one of the song never have been published to the market in their published titles.

More on an introduction of ‘Danny Boy’; its lyric; an introduction of this chorus; and some more images:

Begin The Beguine (English and Chinese version)

DLJ2

Here are two versions of the song. One is in English, ‘Broadway Melody of 1940’ (in which I see Eleanor Powell & Fred Astaire doing their exquisite classy tap dance to the song ); Chinese version is by Chinese Diva Teresa Teng 邓丽君 (recorded in late 70’s, released in her ‘Island Love Song Serie Album No.8‘ 1984, in which Teresa’s ethereal voice is really felt like the tropical warm wind…)

Doris is not very glamorous, she is all about being jolly and charming.
