Tianjin, China will build this 117 tower. Asian No.1 height. Obviously world’s 2nd (after Dubai tower).

I think they are actually all beautiful. But to my eyes, they don’t seem to go together very well. Not 100%.

If you like the SWFC building (the middle one of the 3 skyscrapers), this is what’s happening next to it. A new taller and newer one, called “Shanghai Tower”. Suppose to finish on 2013.

上海塔(Shanghai Tower,以前称上海中心)有一帮备受全球关注的“好邻居”,它紧挨高1615英尺(约合492米)的上海环球金融中心。截至目前,上海环球金融中心是 世界上第二高的已竣工摩天大楼,仅次于台北101大厦,后者的高度为1670英尺(约合509米)。另外,上海塔还毗邻高达1381英尺(约合421米) 的金茂大厦,金茂大厦是世界上第五高的建筑。上海塔的高度为2073英尺(约合632米),超过上述三座摩天大楼——对于一片曾被规划用作高尔球场的土地 来说,这一结果并不算糟糕。

它和身边的两栋摩天大楼都位于浦东陆家嘴金融区。实际上,从1993年开始,它们的建设就已摆到决策层的桌 面上,按照当时的规划,陆家嘴将建设 3幢超高层的标志性建筑,形成“品”字形的三足鼎立之势。在GENSLER建筑设计事务所的设计中标后,上海塔将从环球金融中心吸取一些美学经验。同芝加 哥螺旋塔一样,上海塔的外立面亦可变化,顶部可以相对于底部顺时针旋转90度。

Sakura in Tokyo.

Nikko Shrine gate (日光东照宫阳明门) is very heavily and beautifully decorated. Nikko is not very far from Tokyo. I remember it was around 1982 when I first got a chance to see the pictures of Nikko Shrine gate. I remember of a photo of the gate after a heavy winter snow fall. The snow stopped, the lanterns lit; a shrine monk was swiping the snow on the stairs. That was really an impressive shot. It was one of the pages in a Calendar. It collected 12 beautiful pictures of different countries. I have never seen any photos of that gate being as beautifully taken since. After some 25 years later, the photo still comes back to my mind and capture me like it did before.
